Demonstrate the physical properties of DNA with this comprehensive kit featuring all the necessary materials for completing fruit DNA extraction and analysis. All you add is the fruit. Specially prepared cell lysating solution and DNA precipitating solution allow students to easily and quickly extract DNA by first crushing their fruit, lysing the cell membrane to release the cell components, and finally precipitating the DNA. The students will then view the DNA by spooling it onto a plastic loop. This process illustrates the enormous length of the DNA molecule and provides a visualization of DNA that will help students understand its physical properties. Kit contains materials for 40 student extractions, step-by-step student instructions, and teacher background information.
