Product Information

Lead students through the process of protein synthesis using the ten sets of detailed laminated manipulatives in the kit, developed by Patti Richardson. Working in small groups or individually, students begin by bonding nucleotides to form a segment of DNA. They then use manipulatives representing mRNA, tRNA, a ribosome, bases, amino acids, and peptide bonds to work through the processes of transcription and translation, to synthesize a protein. Students also discover what happens if there is a mutation in the DNA and how this can alter the protein that is produced. Assembly required. Includes set of 10 and instructions. Grades 9–12.
