Product Information

Make 1 to 4 gallons of delicious old fashion root beer naturally carbonated with real yeast and bottled in recycled plastic soda bottles.

There is absolutely nothing like a refreshing gulp of home-brewed root beer. This easy to use kit lets you brew up a goodly batch you're sure to enjoy. Makes a great project or a perfect birthday gift.

Includes: 2 oz. root beer extract, special brewing yeast, funnel, project guide, blank labels, storage container.

Required but not included: two 2-liter plastic soda bottles with screw caps or four 1-liter plastic soda bottles with bottle caps, 2 cups of sugar, a pot large enough to hold a gallon.

Fun Fermentation

I used this for biology and microbiology classes in high school when we studied fermentation. It is something 'different' for the students to do. It doesn't take much time, and shows the students that carbon dioxide (like alcohol) is not something that has to be added; it can be made by microbes. This particular kit tasted like those little root beer keg-shaped candies, and the kids weren't so fond of it. But it made SO much CO2 that when we took one 2-liter and threw it on the sidewalk, the whole bottle shot off like a rocket and went over our gym! That was something kids still talk about. . .
